"A long, long time ago, in a far off land called the Eighties, the world of synthesizers was changing rapidly," said grandpa, as he warmed his old feet by the fire. "The Yamaha DX7 developed FM-synthesis and conquered its own analogue ancestors; the Roland D50 did battle with the DX7 and won, earning the title of a 'classic'." In more recent years, Roland introduced the Boutique D-05: more or less a re-release of the dominating synth-power that was the D50. In the '80s, the PG-1000 programmer was the D50's reliable sidekick: able to helpfully couple the many parameters of the D50 to physical sliders. Since the PG-1000, just like the D50, can now only be found on the second-hand market, the more compact form of the Dtronics DT-01 has been introduced to take its place and offer the same support for the Boutique D-05. The plus here is that the DT-01 will even work alongside the original D50 model.
